The 'delete your account' meme is taking over Twitter thanks to Hillary Clinton

The election just got REAL.

Ready. hillaryclinton hillaryclinton

THIS WEEK, HILLARY Clinton became the Democratic Party’s presumptive presidential candidate.

As such, she’s stepped up the campaign against her political opponent Donald Trump and last night, things got real.

Yesterday evening, Donald Trump weighed in on Barack Obama’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton with this tweet.

Hillary’s retort? “Delete your account.”

“Delete your account” is a phrase used on Twitter when someone tweets something dumb.

For instance, here’s Edward Snowden telling Jeb Bush to delete his account after Bush tweeted a photo of a gun and captioned it, “America.” (You can’t make this stuff up, folks.)

Over 365,000 people and counting have retweeted Clinton’s tweet and “delete your account” has taken on a new lease of life.

Although some people were quick to note that Hillary definitely (a) has no idea what ‘delete your account’ means or (b) was consulted about the tweet

Amusingly, the tweet inspired some rather earnest explanations of ‘delete your account’

Here’s how The Guardian described it:

“Delete your account” is a frequently used comeback on social media, often to chastise someone for posting bad content.

Reuters described it as “a popular form of online dismissal” and The New York Times explained it as “a dismissive rejoinder, especially on Twitter”.

It translates roughly as “Your tweet or opinion is so bad that you should be immediately disqualified from further participation on the platform.”

As for how Trump responded to the whole debacle?

It’s going to be a long election, everybody.

Now, how long before this happens?
